PORT ROYAL: Danny Dietrich doesn't show up at Port Royal Speedway often, but when he does, he shows speed.
He is fond of the big Juniata County oval. It also helps that he has a major sponsor who calls the Port home and is usually in the hunt for a victory.
Flying the special red, white and blue Weikert Family colors Monday, Dietrich took advantage of a mistake by Brent Marks to earn the Labor Day Classic win. He earned $4,000 for his second career triumph in the event.
"We run this car every year," Dietrich said. "[The Weikert Family] helps us out a lot. They are good friends. It means a lot to stand on this stage with the 29, and I'm sure it makes them happy, too.
"We really look forward to these fair races. We were good Saturday ... we just got beat. We were just glad to get second and put on a show for everyone."
Dietrich made this one interesting.
Pole-sitter Dylan Cisney, Dietrich and Marks were in a three-wide battle on the backstretch at the start. Before the lap could be scored, western Pennsylvania invader A.J. Flick slowed in Turn 2.
Marks, who started fourth, took advantage of the second start. He shot by Dietrich to take second by a nose on Lap 2 and was running one car-length behind Cisney on Lap 3.
