Smith & Montieth Back In Victory Lane
The Speedway Motors/Champion Racing Oil Central PA Sprint Cars ran Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway as a tune up for the National Open next weekend. Stevie Smith was back in town preparing for next week and took the feature event. It was Stevie’s 9th series win of the year. Saturday night was the $20,000 to win Dirt Classic at Lincoln Speedway. Brian Montieth hadn’t been in victory lane for a few months but picked a good night to change that. Brian won the feature and the $20,000 that came with it to give him nine wins for the year too.
The Speedway Motors/Champion Racing Oil Central PA Sprint Cars run with the World of Outlaws this weekend for the 53rd Williams Grove Speedway National Open. The race has been expanded to a three day show starting Thursday night October 1st and ending on Saturday October 3rd. The weekend is also sponsored this year for the first time by Central PA Sprint Cars Series co-sponsor Champion Racing Oil.

McKENZIE, TN – Derek Hagar and Chase Brewer led the way for J&J Auto Racing in Sprint car action last weekend each winning two, while Donny Schatz, Nate Dussel, Ryan Ruhl, Brad Haudenschild, Brandon McMullen and Brenden Wilde were also victorious using J&J Auto Racing Sprint cars.
DEREK HAGAR
Derek Hagar scored back-to-back wins last week in the USCS events at Crowley’s Ridge Raceway and Batesville Motor Speedway. Hagar wheeled his No. 9jr J&J to his 32nd career USCS victory at Crowley’s Ridge after taking the lead for good on lap 14. At Batesville, Hagar chased fellow J&J racer Morgan Turpen (No. 10M J&J) until she had mechanical problems. Hagar assumed the lead and went on to win his fifth race of 2015.
"I think we have some good momentum built," admitted Hagar. "We’ve had good cars and had a good weekend."
CHASE BREWER
Chase Brewer raced the No. 1 J&J to victory both Friday at Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie, Texas. He stared 10th and raced his way into the lead without any cautions. On Saturday, Brewer drove his J&J to victory at Kennedale Speedway Park. The victories were his second and third of the season.
BRANDON McMULLEN
Brandon McMullen earned his first win of the season Friday night at Dodge County Fairgounds in Beaver Dam, Wisonsin. He drove his No. 98 J&J to victory in the Midwest Sprint Car Association feature.
DONNY SCHATZ
Donny Schatz continued his incredible 2015 World of Outlaws season by winning his 20th A-Feature of the year aboard Tony Stewart Racing’s No. 15 Bad Boy Buggies/Chevrolet Performance J&J. The victory came at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin.
NATE DUSSELL
Nate Dussell won his first career 410 Sprint car feature last Saturday night at Fremont Speedway. Dussell drove Al Davis’ No. 40DD J&J and led all 30 laps to capture the win. Cap Henry finished second in the No. 53 J&J to give J&J a one-two sweep.
BRAD HAUDENSCHILD
Brad Haudenschild celebrated Wayne Co. Speedway’s 50th anniversary bash with his third victory of the year in the Kempthorn Auto Mall/Fire & Ice Pub backed No. 38K J&J. Haudenschild worked his way into second on lap two and took the lead nine laps later. Once in front, he would only be slowed down by one caution on his way to the win.
BRENDEN WILDE
Brenden Wilde had to be determined to finally win a NOSA Feature event. He became the 73rd different winner after racing his No. 35 J&J past fellow J&J racer Wade Nygaard on the final lap of a thrilling 25-lap feature event at Devil’s Lake Speedway in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. It took three tries to finish the race and Wilde edged out Nygaard to score his first win of the year.
"It feels great, unbelievable!" said Wilde after the race. "I kept seeing guys spinning out and all I kept thinking was, ‘Come on guys. Two more laps. All I need is two more laps."
RYAN RUHL
Ryan Ruhl put on a show Saturday night at Butler Speedway in Butler, Michigan. Ruhl started his No. 16 J&J 19th and drove all the way to victory to earn his sixth triumph of 2015.

New Egypt, NJ August 25, 2015 . . . . . The fifth running of the JERSEY RUSH, on Tuesday night, at the New Egypt Speedway was nothing short of spectacular with Greg Hodnett winning a thriller over JJ Grasso and Duane Howard beating out Billy Pauch Jr. to win the modified feature. Hodnett of Thomasville, PA led all thirty laps of the 410 sprint feature but was pressured throughout the second half of the race, with Grasso in the hunt. Hodnett earned $5,000 for the victory, his first ever 410 sprint car win at New Egypt. The thirty lap modified feature saw Jimmy Horton lead at the outset, with Billy Pauch holding the top spot until Duane Howard took the lead on lap nine. Pauch Jr. moved on top on lap seventeen with Howard leading the final two lap to earn the $3,000 first place prize.
In the 410 Sprint Car feature event, Hodnett launched from the top starting spot with Robbie Stillwaggon right on his tail and Davey Sammons moving into the third position. Kunkletown, PA’s Ryan Smith — while in the seventh position — launched over the wheel of another competitor and flipped, spectacularly, over the turn four guardrail landing between the guardrail and the catch fence. Smith walked away uninjured. After a twenty minute delay in the action to remove Smith’s car, Hodnett took control on the restart with Lance Dewease powering into the second position and former two-time Jersey Rush winner, JJ Grasso moving into the third position. Dewease and Grasso battled back and forth swapping the second spot leading just passed the halfway point. Grasso, on a tear, battled in between lapped cars and gained quickly on Hodnett, challenging the leader as the five-to-go signal approached – and pulling alongside Hodnett in the closing laps of the event, but it was Hodnett capturing the checkered flag over Grasso, Davey Sammons in third, Danny Dietrich in fourth and Lance Dewease rounding out the top 5.
Neshanic, NJ’s Jimmy Horton started on the pole for the 30-lap Modified feature event and took the early lead battling with Frenchtown, NJ’s Billy Pauch. Pauch, aboard a potent big-block machine, powered to the top spot at the fourth circuit, as Oley, PA’s Duane Howard moved into the second position with ‘The Ringoes Rocket’ Ryan Godown charging to the third spot – from the nineteenth starting position. A lap nine restart shuffled the top runners with Howard taking over the lead and Billy Pauch Jr. moved into the second position with a hard-charging, Neal Williams challenging for the third spot. A two car battle for the lead ensued with Pauch Jr. and Duane Howard shuffling the top spot back and forth in lapped traffic. Howard, using a lapped car to his advantage, slid underneath Pauch Jr. with two lapped to go and went on to collect the $3,000 top prize. Pauch Jr. settled for second, Neal Williams in third, Billy Pauch in fourth and Danny Bouc in fifth.
A field of twenty-six 410 sprints took time trials with defending winner Ryan Smith earning a $100 bonus for setting fast time with a time of 13.785. Oliver Communications posted $200 to the heat race winners with Danny Dietrich, Greg Hodnett and Steve Buckwalter taking the sprint car heat wins, Modified heats were won by Billy Pauch Jr., Duane Howard and Billy Pauch. Consolations were won by Mike Haggenbottom in the Sprints and Ryan Godown in the Modifieds. The Thayer Performance Hard Charger award was won by Mark Bitner.

dominates Path Valley main for second Speed Week win…
SPRING RUN: Stevie Smith’s road to a Pennsylvania Speed Week title could have taken a hit at Path Valley Speedway Park. There were plenty of disadvantages heading into Night 2 of the nine-race series. The most glaring was that Smith had only been at Path Valley once, and that was 25 years ago.
Then again, there was a time when Smith raced for a living. He raced with the World of Outlaws and was used to unfamiliar territory. Sunday night was a flashback to those days. Smith not only looked like a Path Valley regular, he dominated the 40-lap Party at the Path for his second-straight Speed Week win and a $5,000 payday.
“It just felt like another track,” Smith, 49, said. “I had a really good racecar and when I got to lapped traffic, it helped me a lot.
“We were able to maneuver good and made good decisions. It was another good night. We started on the front row… I, mean, I can’t really explain it.”
The win was Smith’s eighth career Speed Week triumph and makes him perfect through two nights of series action. It also gives the Oklahoma driver a comfortable point lead.
Smith has 348 markers, 68 ahead of second-place Danny Dietrich, who finished second Sunday. Greg Hodnett is third with 273, followed by Lucas Wolfe (254) and Brent Marks (243).

AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY, THUNDER SERIES TO OPEN SUNDAY, MAY 24
For the twenty-sixth season, the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series will return to the Grandview Speedway with six exciting events presented by NAPA Auto Parts. Some one-hundred and fourteen Thunder on the Hill events were presented since Steve Smith and the Black Bandit #19 parked in victory lane at the very first Thunder Series event in August of 1990. Thunder on the Hill is a co-promotion between Grandview Speedway Owner Bruce Rogers and Special events organizer Bob Miller.
The Thunder Series has distributed in excess of $3.8 million dollars in payouts to the various divisions over the years. Thunder on the Hill has offered unique specialty events to include the 410 Sprints, USAC Sprints, WoO Late Models, CRA Non-Wing Sprints, Sportsman, ARDC Midgets, DIRTcar Modifieds, ROC Modifieds, WoO Sprints, 358 Sprints, 358 Modifieds, Late Models, URC Sprints, SCRA Sprints, 600 Sprints, Legends and even the Monster Smash Demolition Derby. The Thunder shows are also unique with event names, fireworks on the parade lap, the Inside/Out Promotion, Joe the Pizza Dude, Pre-race Pit Tours, Race Team Meet & Greets at the front gate, the Grill on the Hill Hot Dog Giveaway in 2014, the annual Quarter Midget Fan Fest and for those who remember when we did the "guest announcer" for a night, offering a fan from the stands an opportunity to call a heat race.
It really is all about the race fans and in 2015, Jay Dugan will return to manage the Thunder on the Hill social media. Jay’s goal is to keep fans informed and engaged in all the happenings of Thunder on the Hill and this includes race night at the track as well as mid-week and during the off season.
In 2015, the Thunder Series will open with the very popular Grandview Thunder 5-25’s, a features only program that will showcase the 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, ARDC Midgets, TSRS 305 Sprints & Legends on Sunday night, May 24.
On Tuesday night, June 2 the 9th Annual EASTERN Storm will open at Grandview Speedway with the USAC Non-Wing Sprints & ARDC Non-Wing Midgets taking part in the Annual Jesse Hockett Classic. This "rub rails and rooster tails" show is always a crowd pleasing event as the USAC stars are not afraid of the Grandview Speedway outside wall.
The third Thunder event will showcase the return of the DIRTCar Modifieds joined by a complete show of the Grandview 358 Modifieds making up the 18th Annual Traffic Jam on Tuesday night, June 16. This is a first time ever presentation of these two premier divisions coming together on the "hill". The DIRTCar Modifies will battle 60 laps for $6,000 to win as the 358 Modified chase a $3,000 payday in a 30 lap feature. It’s a Double Down for Modifieds Night with an added $1,000 Bonus from Pioneer Pole Buildings for any driver who can Double Down and with both features.
Always a popular event is the Pennsylvania Sprint Speed Week Series when the 410 Sprints and the ROC Modifieds team up on Tuesday night, June 30.
For the first time ever, the Renegade 410 Sprints will make a stop "on the hill" at the Grandview Speedway joined by the 358 Modifieds on Tuesday night, July 28.
The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series will close out 2015 with the Annual House of Thunder Halloween Party and Grandview Thunder 5-25’s on Saturday night, October 17. The features only program will include the 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, ARDC Midgets, TSRS 305 Sprints and Legend Cars along with the Blast from the Past Vintage Cars. This event will start at 6 PM.

Grandview Speedway is a high-banked one-third mile clay oval, celebrating their 53RD Anniversary season in 2015. The facility offers free parking, quality food at reasonable prices (be sure to try the french fries), a program book, Grandview Speedway and Thunder on the Hill race wear and great viewing from every seat in the house. Race fans may take part in the Inside/Out promotion, where you can sign up (no charge) to watch warm-ups from inside turn four. Race fans are also invited to victory lane following the racing program and, race fans may enter the pits after the races to meet the drivers. Be ready to enjoy the spine tingling fireworks salute on the feature event parade lap.

Tuesday, Septmeber 16 mark your calendars to come out to Jake’s WayBack Burgers. 20% of all proceeds made that day will go towards the Beer Hill Gangs fundraising efforts towards the 3rd Annual National Open Kick-it Tournament, which benefits Jeff Gordon’s kick-it for kids cancer foundation. There will be many drivers on hand for a meet and greet and autograph signing starting after 4pm.
Drivers that have said they will be there include, Lance Dewease, Brent Marks, Ryan Wilson, Brock Zearfoss, Rodney Westhafer, Austin Hogue, Nicole Bower, Tyler Baer, Kody Lehman, Leah Starner, Steve Wilbur, Bruce Buckwalter Jr and more possible. Radio show “Low Down and Dirty” will also be on hand. Announcer Dave Hare, along with Williams Grove promoter Justin Loh, will be on hand too! Should be huge event to benefit a great cause.
