York Springs, PA, The annual Gary Wolford Fish Fry and Silver Spring Speedway Reunion will occur this Sunday, May 1, at the Latimore Valley fairground. The fairground is located two miles east of York Springs, Pennsylvania on Latimore Valley Road. Former local racing star Gary Wolford began the Fish Fry at his garage in Brogue, PA. The event grew in size and Wolford moved it to the present fairground location.

The Fish Fry is a fund-raising event for the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing. Gary Wolford donates all the proceeds from the day to the museum. The festivities will commence at 9 a.m. There will be various restored racing machines in the infield area.

Gary Wolford’s dedicated crew will prepare fried fish and fries for those in attendance. There is no charge for the food but Wolford asks everyone to make a donation.

The highlight of the day is the blindfold race. Referred to as the “Second Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” the race will feature four cars with each being piloted by a blindfolded driver.

The first car will contain Super Sportsman drivers Carmen Perigo Jr. and Steve Wilbur. Representing the Modified division will be MeMe DeSantis and Ryan Watt. Dana Montieh , Gloria Wilbur, and Tena Shaffer will occupy the third machine. The final entry will feature Susquehanna Speedway owner Scott Gobrecht and his speedway manager Kolten Gouse.

All will compete in junkyard cars prepared and donated by J and K Salvage. The race will go green at 1 p.m.

There will be other activities taking place including rides for the fans around the Latimore Valley oval. The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing will be open.

The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing continues to be a showplace for the wide variety of machinery in the world of motorsports. The museum encompasses various forms of racing equipment. EMMR is also a leading motorsports research facility and contains the Chris Economaki collection.

The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is located at 100 Baltimore Road, just off Route 15, near York Springs, PA.

Port Royal Speedway Opens 2016 Season March 12

September 26, 2019 / 0 Comments / 459 / Uncategorized

Super Sprints & Super Lates On Tap

Free schedule magnets to first 500 general admission fans!

PORT ROYAL, Pa. – Port Royal Speedway will open the 2016 racing season this Saturday, March 12 at 6 pm with a twin bill of Weikert’s Livestock 410 sprints paying $3,500 to win and super late models paying $2,000 to win. General admission gates will open at 4 pm with pit gates opening at 3 pm. Adult general admission for the first show of the season is $15 with students ages 12 – 18 priced at JUST $7. The first 500 fans through the general admission gate will receive a FREE 2016 schedule magnet, sponsored by Juniata Beverage.

In last year’s season lidlifer on April 4, East Berlin’s Aaron Ott won his first ever 410 sprint main at the historic oval while Mike Lupfer began what would be his domination of the early season by claiming the first three features in a row. Ott stayed in front of Nate Snyder and Lucas Wolfe for the victory last year.

He entered the rear of the field on the sixth lap with Snyder, Wolfe and Logan Wagner in pursuit.

As the race headed toward the halfway point of the 25 circuit main, the front three cars all drew within striking distance of one another when Wolfe pulled the trigger on Snyder for second deep in the first corner. In a hair-raising move, Snyder squeezed between the outside turn two wall and the right side of Wolfe’s car in order to slingshot back into second but the fracas between the two allowed Ott to open up a little distance to win by 1.654 seconds.

Mike Lupfer drew the pole for the start of the 22-lap super late model main and outraced Coleby Frye for the lead as the pair ran down the backstretch to complete the first circuit. Frye raced Lupfer hard back to the line but Lupfer had the lead and it was a control he would not relinquish for the rest of the distance as he pretty much annihilated the field in the non-stop affair.

Lucas Wolfe and Lupfer are the defending division champions. Rick Lafferty kicked off the decade at Port Royal in 2010 with an opening day sprint car victory followed by Blane Heimbach in 2011, Greg Hodnett in 2012, Dave Blaney in 2013 and Blane Heimbach again in 2014.

Port Royal Speedway returns to action on March 19 with another dual division card of 410 sprints and super late models at 6 pm before March 26 gives way to an early season late model lovers delight when the UFO Late Models hit town along with the 410 sprints on Kids Easter Night.

The UFO 358 late models are also on the agenda.

Other Opportunities on the Rise

YORK, Pa. (March 8, 2016) – Chase Dietz has parted ways with car owner Scott Gobrecht and the 44 team. Dietz made his last start for Gobrecht on Sunday, March 6, at Lincoln Speedway, resulting in a 16th place finish during the 25-lap main event. The 2015 North American 410 Sprint Car Rookie of the Year will pursue other opportunities in 2016, as well as pilot the Troy Godfrey-owned No. 5G once the team is ready to join the Central Pennsylvania 410 sprint car circuit. In the meantime, Chase Dietz will begin reassembling his family-owned No. 2D for future Lincoln Speedway starts.

“Unfortunately, Scott Gobrecht and I have parted ways” Chase Dietz explained, “We had a great run together the last year or so. He gave me a great opportunity which allowed me to earn my first ever 410 win, as well as earn national rookie honors. I want to thank Scott and the entire crew for their help and dedication. Golf Cart Services, Bad Boy Buggies, ServiceMaster Clean Janitorial Service of York and Lancaster, Gettysburg Rental Company, Baker Door Company, H&H General Excavating, Nevin’s Automotive, Rick’s Auto Body, Case Beer & Beverage, Kleffels of Hanover, Moose Blocks, McSherrystown Moose #720 Family Center, Pancho’s Racing Products and Aero Wings; they were all great partners and I couldn’t have asked for better people to be around.”

Despite the setback, Dietz still plans to make as many starts as possible in 2016.

“Once Troy Godfrey and his team are ready, we’ll have his car at the track” Dietz said, “I’m excited to get our season started together. We had a lot of success in the 358 ranks, and I’m sure that will continue with the 410. My family has also stepped forward to help keep me in a car for now. We have a lot of dedicated support, but we’ll continue to seek more.”

Race fans can keep up with Chase Dietz during his entire campaign at the official online home of Fully Injected Motorsports – www.FullyInjected.com. Follow Chase on all of the available social networks including Facebook: Chase Dietz Racing and Twitter: Chase Dietz Racing.
