The All Star Circuit of Champions will make a return visit to the Grandview Speedway on Thursday night, August 18, all part of the 2016 NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series. The All Stars are no stranger to the “hill” although their last visit was back on August 29, 2000 when Chris Eash won the All Star Thunder on the Hill event. Previous All Star feature winners at Grandview include Jeff Sheppard, Fred Rahmer, Billy Pauch, Lance Dewease, Donnie Kreitz, Jimmy Horton and Steve Smith.
It’s a new deal in 2016 with a cast of competitors looking to score their first All Star win in Thunder on the Hill competition.
Expected entries include All Star favorites Dale Blaney, Cody Darrah, Chad Kemenah, Greg Wilson, Tim Shaffer, Sheldon Haudenschild, Danny Holtgraver and the Thunder on the Hill sponsored entry of Ryan Smith just to name a few. Likely Pennsylvania stars include Greg Hodnett, Danny Dietrich, Brent Marks, Lance Dewease, Lucas Wolfe, Alan Krimes, Freddie Rahmer and JJ Grasso.

Newberrytown, PA (August 29, 2015) – Grantville’s Grant Adams won his first BRC Late Model feature of the season at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday Night. Eddie Richards of Manchester took the checkers on the 20-lap Street Stock feature race. Chambersburg’s Colby Dice won the 20-lap IMCA PA Sprint Series feature event. Kirby Sites from Hamburg won his first 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event of the year. Tim Osheean won the 15-lap Road Warrior race. Dennis Dorosz of Glen Burnie, Maryland won his fifth 12-lap Mini Van feature of the season with a last lap pass for the lead. Steven’s Richard Wolfe was victorious for his third Double Figure 8 race of the season.
Grant Adams started the 25-lap BRC Late Model feature from the pole position and grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag. On lap 3, Chase Billet settled into second place as Cameron Benyou fell in behind him. Billet chased down Adams to his rear bumper but was unable to make the pass for the lead. Adams took the checkers over Billet. Jed Latshaw finished third with Jake Moser finishing in fourth. Sonny Norris came across the line in fifth. Adams was the heat race winner.
Scott Thunberg grabbed the early lead of the 25-lap Street Stock feature and received immediate pressure from Jim Palm Jr. Palm took the lead away from Thunberg on lap 7. On lap 14, Palm retired from the race with mechanical failure, giving the lead over to Eddie Richards. On the restart, Richards set the pace and took the win at the finish over Jimmy Combs. Thunberg came home in third, followed by Curt McDade in fourth. The fifth place finished was Mark Hutchison. Richards was the heat race winner.
In the 20-lap IMCA PA Sprint Series feature event, Colby Dice and Ken Duke brought the field to the green with Dice taking the top spot and setting the pace. Dice set the pace but Duke was able to close in on Dice as he entered lapped traffic. Dice maneuvered his way through the lapped cars to take the victory over Duke at the end. Donnie Hendershot finished third. Jaremi Ranson and drew Ritchey finished fourth and fifth places respectively. Dice, Hendershot and Duke were the heat race winners.
The 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature began with Michael Smith taking the early lead. On a lap 3 restart, Smith had mechanical issues and dropped back, giving the lead to Kirby Sites. Once in front, Sites never looked back and crossed the finish line of runner-up Mallory Duvall. Alex Updegraff finished third, followed by Brian Rehbein in fourth. Patrick McClane finished fifth. Duvall and Updegraff won the heat races.
Tim Osheean won the 15-lap Road Warrior race. Daryl Sipe came from an eighth place starting spot to finish in second. Travis Brown finished third, followed by Donald Fortini in fourth. Brandon Hedstrom rounded out the top five. Underkoffer and Fortini were heat race winners.
Richard Wolfe took the early lead from the front row at the start of the 12-lap Mini Van race and led until Zakari Kitner got by on lap 5. Dennis Dorosz chased down Kitner and made the winning pass coming off turn 4 on the final lap in the non-stop race to take his fifth victory of the season. Kitner had to settle for second at the finish. Richard Wolfe finished in third place, followed by Thomas Thompson in fourth.
Richard Wolfe led from start to finish to win the 15-lap Double Figure 8 feature. Daryl Sipe finished second with Thomas Thompson in third. Zakari Kitner and Dennis Dorosz finished fourth and fifth places respectively.
The next Wednesday night Test & Tune will be on Wednesday, September 2. The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with practice sessions rotating for each class from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $14.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($34.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. Each session will be 6 – 8 laps per session. The grandstands are open and free to the public. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits. The main concession stand will also be open throughout the night.
Also on Wednesday night, September 2, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets, karts and Adult Speedcars at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and “cold pit” areas. All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the “Big Track.”
Friday night, September 4, the final round of the Summer Shoot-Out Series will take place at the Outback Track featuring Quarter Midgets, Karts and Adult Speedcars. The pit gates will open 5:45 p.m. with a driver’s meeting at 7:20 p.m. Open practice begins at 7:00 p.m. and racing action begins at 7:30 p.m. The entry fees for each class will be $20.00 per entry for drivers with the seasonal (Spring/Summer) license. Pit pass fees for the driver are included in the entry fee. Non-license driver’s entry fees will be $25.00. Participants may enter more than one class on a raceday ($12.00 for each additional class). Trophies will be awarded to the top three in each class regardless of class entry count. No participants will be denied racing as SSP will make every effort to define a class for all drivers who wish to compete.
Pit pass prices for non-drivers at the Outback Track will be $8.00 for everyone ages 18 & older; Teens & Children ages 11 – 17 are $5.00; Children 10 years of age and under are $3.00. Ages 2 & under are admitted free.
Racing action returns to the Big Track at SSP on Saturday night, September 5 with the 15th Annual York County Nationals. This will be final Track Championship Points race of the season for the BRC Late Models (32 laps – $1,000-to-win), Street Stocks (25 laps), Xtreme Stock Cars, Road Warriors, Mini Vans. Also racing will be the Classic Cars and the EMMR Vintage Cars exhibition. The night will finish with a Small Car Demolition Derby. The special Awards Presentation for the Outback Track Summer Shootout Series has also been moved from September 12 to September 5.
Saturday is also Bernheisel Race Components (BRC) Superior Products Night in which every competitor in attendance for Late Model division will be receiving something of real value. BRC will be partnering with parts suppliers and manufacturers to provide real components and parts. The only requirements to the competitors is that on that night they display BRC decals on the left and right sides of their cars to receive their portion of the $7000 parts to be handed out.
On Saturday (PLEASE NOTE NEW STARTING TIMES), the pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Track Prep laps begin at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events. General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Saturday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $14.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $12.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $22.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 12 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 12 to 14.
Due to personal commitments of the Fishers that have recently arisen, the race program scheduled for Saturday night, September 12 has been cancelled.
The 410 Super Sprint Cars return to SSP on Sunday, September 20 along with the IMCA PA Sprint Series. The 410 Sprint Car feature will pay $3,500-to-win for the 25-lap feature event. Non-qualifiers for the A-Main feature will receive a complimentary non-transferrable entry fee ($50.00 value) for the Final Showdown to be held at SSP in November. For the 410 Sprint Cars, mufflers WILL NOT be required and Hoosier Brand Spec Tires will be required on all four corners (same as the 2015 rules at Williams Grove, Lincoln and Port Royal Speedways). All other rules will follow the generally accepted rules for Sprint Cars at local weekly Central PA Sprint Car tracks (1400 pounds weight rule). Raceivers will be mandatory for all Sprint Cars.

Newberrytown, PA (August 1, 2015) โ The Susquehanna Speedway Park racing family mourns the passing of Carnie Fryfogle of Manchester, Maryland. Fryfogleโs one-car accident occurred on the final lap of the 20-lap All American Outlaw feature event at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night, August 1. He was running in the eighth place position out of nineteen drivers when the incident took place on the backstretch of the speedway. Fryfogle was pronounced dead by the York County Coroner at the track.
The thoughts and prayers from the entire SSP family of employees, friends, fans, drivers and crews are with the Fryfogle family during this difficult time.

Pre-Entry List Released for the Last 410 Winged Sprint Car Race in the U.S.
Newberrytown, PA (November 13, 2014) – On Saturday afternoon, November 14, the Susquehanna Speedway Park will host The Final Showdown for the 410 Sprint Cars in the Central PA area as well as the entire United States for 2015. Also included in this special program will be the popular 358 Sprint Cars. The raindate will be Sunday, November 15, but is not expected to be used with clear weather forecasted for Saturday. Last year, Greg Hodnett (410) and Chase Dietz (358) were the event winners.
The 410 Sprint Car feature event will be 30-laps and pay the winner $10,000 if the driver is pre-entered on or before Monday, November 9. Anyone entering the event on Tuesday, November 10 or after will receive $5,000-to-win. The race will also pay $300 to start the feature. Tow money ($50.00) for non-qualifying drivers will only be paid to those who pre-entered before November 9. For the 410 Sprint Cars, mufflers WILL NOT be required. All other rules of the Central PA 410 Sprint Cars will prevail for this event including the current Central PA Hoosier tire rule. Raceivers will be mandatory.
The 410 Super Sprint Cars will qualify in time trials with the top six automatically qualifying for the 30-lap feature. The top six will be inverted for the feature and will not attempt to qualify through the heat races. The remaining cars will qualify for the 30-lapper through heat races and last chance races.
The 358 Sprint Car feature event will be 20-laps and pay the winner $2,000 if they are pre-entered on or before Monday, November 9. Anyone entering the event on Tuesday, November 10 or after will receive $1,500-to-win. The race will also now pay and increased amount of $200 to start the feature. Tow money ($50.00) for non-qualifying drivers will only be paid to those who pre-entered before November 10. The tire rule will be the same used at the regular PA 358 Sprint Car tracks. All other rules of the Central PA 358 Sprint Cars will prevail for this event. Mufflers are not required for the 358 Sprint Cars. Raceivers will be mandatory.
…AT FRIDAY’S 57th "NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS" CELEBRATION
Friday night’s 57th USAC "Night of Champions" National Awards Dinner held at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis, Ind. sported a somewhat familiar theme to the previous two functions.
Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Ind. once again headlined the list of award recipients after claiming his third consecutive USAC National Drivers Championship. Clauson also earned a $300,000 scholarship from INDYCAR and won USAC’s 2012 AMSOIL National Sprint Car title.
Also accepting checks as top drivers in the National Drivers Championship were runner-up Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. and third-place Dave Darland of Lincoln, Ind.
Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind. celebrated his 2012 USAC Traxxas Silver Crown title, while Darren Hagen of Riverside, Calif. was hailed as the 2012 Mopar National Midget champion.
Car owner champions for 2012 celebrated Friday were Rotondo Weirich/Curb-Agajanian for the 2012 USAC Traxxas Silver Crown title, Corey Tucker/BCI/Curb-Agajanian as the AMSOIL Sprint Car crown and Keith Kunz Motorsports/Curb-Agajanian as the Mopar National Midget kings. Accepting special trophies as the club’s first-ever National "Triple Crown" car owners were Mike Curb and Cary Agajanian.
Champions of USAC’s 2012 The Off Road Championship (TORC) series honored Friday included Ricky Johnson of Trabuco Canyon, Calif. (Pro 4×4), Bryce Menzies of Las Vegas, Nev. (Pro 2WD), Brad Lovell of Colorado Springs, Colo. (Pro Light 2WD) and Mitchell DeJong of Temecula, Calif. (Pro Buggy).
Keys to the City of Indianapolis from Mayor Gregory A. Ballard, who was in attendance, were presented to East, Clauson and Hagen in recognition of their 2012 National Championships. Emcees Jim Tretow and Pat Sullivan orchestrated the presentations, which included driver and car entrant champions, Rookies of the Year, Most Improved Drivers and special award recipients.
Among items presented to the 2012 champions were trophies, plaques, Oakley timepieces, Hoosier jackets, medallions, Briggs & Stratton power washers and personalized remote-control TRAXXAS Trucks.
Driving champions in addition to the aforementioned included Mike Spencer of Temecula, Calif. (AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprints), who established an all-time USAC record of five consecutive series titles. Tony Hunt of Lincoln, Calif. (Western Classic Sprints and Western Classic Dirt Sprints) accepted his ninth and 10th USAC titles, second all-time in USAC’s 57-year history.
Other 2012 champions included Shannon McQueen of Tehachapi, Calif. (Mopar Western Midgets), Chad Nichols of Colma, Calif. (Western Pavement Midget), David Prickett of Fresno, Calif. Nissan received the TORC Manufacturer of the Year honors and B.F. Goodrich earned the TORC Tire Manufacturer of the Year award.
Andrew Caddell of Graham, Wash. accepted the TORC TRAXXAS MAXX Award for posting the most "fastest laps" during the 2011 Pro Light 2WD campaign.
Nick Baumgartner of Iron River, Mich.., also a Pro Light 2WD participant, was named TORC "Rookie of the Year," and Luke Johnson of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., also a Pro Light 2WD participant, was named the "Most Improved" TORC driver.
TORC Oakley Bomb awards went to Rob MacCachren of Las Vegas, Nev. (Pro 2WD) and Ricky Johnson (Pro 4×4).
The third annual "Jack Flannery Award" recognizing determination and perseverance went to Scott Douglas of El Cajon, Calif. The TORC "Crew Chief of the Year" honors went to Charlie Schlieve of Antigo, Wisc. of Team Red Bull.
A special USAC "Spirit of Youth Award" was presented to Aaron Likens of Maryland Heights, Md. for his many contributions to the sport of quarter-midget racing.
USAC President Kevin Miller presented USAC Special Appreciation Awards to IndyCar (corporate) and Buck and Betty Rice of Grand Saline, Texas (individual) for their contributions and dedicated service to the racing community. An additional USAC Special Appreciation Award was presented posthumously to Bob Newton of Hoosier Racing Tires.
Chris Economaki, who passed away September 28, was named as the recipient of USAC’s prestigious Roger McCluskey Award of Excellence, recognizing his commitment to the overall sport of auto racing and his numerous contributions to USAC and grass-roots racing.
USAC’s 2012 National "Race Organizer of the Year" award was presented to The O’Connor Family of Kokomo Speedway.
Kyle Hamilton of Danville, Ind. earned the 2012 USAC Silver Crown "Rookie of the Year" honor. C.J. Leary was honored as the National Sprint Car "Rookie of the Year" and the Bob Stroud Memorial National Midget "Rookie of the Year" Award for the National Midget Series went to Rico Abreu of Rutherford, Calif. Chase Stockon of Sullivan, Ind. was named USAC "Most Improved" National Driver of 2012.
USAC’s 2012 "Mechanical Achievement of the Year" award went to Mike Dutcher of Cicero, Ind. of RW Motorsports.
Long-time USAC Executive and Western Operations Director Tommy Hunt was honored for his long service to the club and presented with the Henry Ford Sweepstakes Award, emblematic of the National Ford Focus Championship which he was instrumental in founding.
Attendees were able to view a replica of the Poteet and Main Speed Demon Streamliner which established World Speed Records in September during runs at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, Second and third-place drivers and car entrants in USAC’s National racing series also received their year-end recognition and awards.
All USAC driving champions were also presented one-year memberships by the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa. Floral decorations were provided by Jockish Flowers of Indianapolis. Tim Spillman of Auto Racing Ministries delivered the invocation.
SHANNON McQUEEN RECEIVES KARA HENDRICK SPIRIT AWARD
Shannon McQueen of Tehachapi, Calif. is the 2012 recipient of USAC’s prestigious Kara Hendrick Spirit Award. The award was presented today at Lyn St. James’ "Women in the Winners Circle" gala, held at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis, Ind. in conjunction with the Indianapolis Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS).
The 34-year-old McQueen won USAC’s 2012 Mopar Western Midget Series championship, outpointing runner-up David Prickett of Fresno, Calif. by 149 points. Her championship makes her only the fifth female driving champion in USAC’s 57-year history! Previous USAC female driving champs were Sondi Eden (2004 Speedrome Midgets), Christine Beavis (2006 International Rally), Jessica Clark (2011 Ford Focus Midget) and Taylor Ferns (2011 D1 Midget).
A veteran of USAC Midget racing for the past 10 years, McQueen competed in 16 events during 2012 and recorded nine "top-five" finishes on her way to the championship. Her title marked her seventh "top-10" ranking and in 2007 she posted a USAC Western Midget feature victory at Madera, Calif., a victory which stood alone in the 30-year history of the series until Michelle Decker’s victory at Bakersfield this year ? Shannon’s award honors the memory of one of USAC’s most accomplished female drivers, Kara Hendrick, who posted a pair of USAC TQ Midget feature wins before tragically losing her life during a USAC Western Midget event at El Cajon, Calif. in 1991. In 1994 a scholarship was established in Kara’s memory and is awarded to a female driver in the Lyn St. James Driver Development Program.
Previous winners of the Kara Hendrick Award, established in 2003, are Jessica Bean, Taylor Ferns, Lynsey Tilton, Alison MacLeod, Stephanie Mockler, Melanie Troxel, Sondi Eden, Erin Crocker and Sarah McCune.

SWEDESBORO, NJ – The United Racing Club held their annual fall membership meeting October 21st at the Swedesboro, NJ Holiday Inn. The meeting was well attended with several important maters on the agenda. Curt Michael led off with a review of the tentative 2016 schedule.
The strong car turn out during the 2015 season helped make it possible to broaden the schedule. The promoters that Michael was dealing with had been impressed with the car counts, with an average of 28 cars attended the Pennsylvania shows and outside of Pennsylvania the car count averaged 23. In all, 34 different drivers participated in the 17 races held under URC sanction.
At present the 2016 season schedule will see URC making appearances at the following tracks: Bridgeport (3), Orange County (2), Williams Grove (4), Selinsgrove (4), Delmar (2), Georgetown (1), Grandview (2), Port Royal (2), New Egypt (1), Big Diamond (1), Bedford (1), and Susquehanna (1)
