AT PHILLIPSBURG MALL SUNDAY, MARCH 1 – 7

The seven day Quaker Steak & Lube Dirt Track Heroes will open today, Sunday, March 1 and continue through Saturday, March 7 at the Phillipsburg Mall in Phillipsburg, NJ.

The Quaker Steak and Lube Dirt Track Heroes Show is honored to bestow the Grand Marshal moniker to one of the great legends in dirt track racing, "The Everett Express" Gerald Chamberlain. Gerald was already a legend in racing when he first set foot onto the Reading Fairgrounds site in 1968, having captured track titles at the South Penn Speedway in 1964 and 65 with dominating performances in which he captured 18 wins in 22 events to dominate the racing action. Chamberlain captured a Hesston Speedway title in 1965 and added another championship 1967 when he captured the track title at the paved Hershey Stadium. Taking over the seat of the famed Paul Deasey owned 707 "Big Donkey," Chamberlain figured out the fast way around Reading and was able to put the sometimes unpredictable Donkey into victory lane on a steady basis.

Teaming with Joe Bullock in 1970, Chamberlain captured 22 wins in 1971 and came back the following season to break his own record with 31 wins. Chamberlain captured 92 wins at Reading. Chamberlain captured two Daniel Boone 200 lap wins and captured the Eastern States 200 in 1976. Chamberlain captured two titles at Flemington the first one 1974 and again in 1976 and captured 31 wins in his tenure at the Square. Chamberlain has been inducted into the DIRT Hall of , Bedford, Hagerstown and Winchester and the Reading Fairgrounds. Gerald Chamberlain has been a strong supporter of the Dirt Track Heroes Show and he and his wife Joanne look forward to seeing his many friends at the Phillipsburg Mall.

Quaker Steak and Lube Restaurants is the lead sponsor for the Dirt Track Heroes Show. The 65 stores making up Quaker Steak and Lube, annually sell more than 80 million wings per year and "The Lube" is recognized as "The best wings in the USA." The Phillipsburg location has also been dubbed "The Official Restaurant of the Dirt Track Heroes" show. To contact the restaurant, call: 908 454 2900 or check out their website at: www.thelube.com Before or after the show head to Quaker Steak and Lube and get recharged and refueled in a great sports setting.

The Dirt Track Heroes Show is extremely proud and thankful to the great list of associate sponsors assembled for the upcoming show. To our loyal racing fans, we ask that you please support these fine institutions whenever you have the opportunity to do so. These great sponsors are the life support of the show and to do the show without them would be extremely difficult to accomplish. In placeto add sponsorship are IRCO Community Federal Credit Union, Smith Fabrications, Charles Price Jr Fire and Water Damage Restorations, Kim’s Kreations Lettering and Apparel, Vogel Designs, R&F International Muffler & Brake, Searock Fabrication and Speed Supplies, Adams Brothers Used Auto Parts, Hamlin Speedway, S&S Speedways, Penn Jersey Food Marts,Murante Auto Repair, Jeff’s Automotive, Persa Auto Repair and Martocci Automotive.

All area race tracks are slated to be present at the show and all historical racing groups including Reading, Flemington, Harmony, Dorney Park and Nazareth will have their memorabilia on display and their many scrapbooks open for the fans to take another long look at the glory years of racing and possibly find a picture or two they want to purchase as a keepsake from past glory or racing exploits. The announcing team of Ed and Steve Pados, Bobby Stull and Justin Beltrame are in place to handle the interview sessions for the eighth consecutive season.

The restored race cars represent racing’s past or what many race fans refer to as the "Golden Era" of auto racing. Either way, the spirit of the event itself takes the great fan base of the event back to a time when they could hop into their family jitney and travel less than a half hour to witness the excitement of a night at the races. While some of the cars in attendance are original works, some of the race cars are replicars, re-created to look much like the racers the legendary drivers drove to glory at one of the many speedways that hosted racing events. Those great cars and the preserved memories gain far more impact when the fans have the opportunity to chat with many of the drivers who will be making special appearances during the week long event. All historical racing groups including Reading, Flemington, Harmony and Nazareth will have their memorabilia on display and their many scrapbooks open for the fans to take another long look at the glory years of racing and possibly find a picture or two they want to purchase as a keepsake from past glory or racing exploits. Dale Snyder Videos and Bob Snyder Photography and Big Mike’s Racing Videos are also in place for the show.

The Dirt Track Heroes Car Show will again offer a great keepsake event souvenir program book and shirt. The Phillipsburg Mall is open Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM; Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 9 PM. NAPA Auto Parts Presents A Big Night of Racing At Thunder on the Hill Tuesday Night at Grandview Speedway. . . .

JEFF STRUNK TOPS 358 MODIFIEDS

The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series continued Tuesday night at the Grandview Speedway with a 410 sprint car feature event that might very well be the best 410 sprint car racing of year.

With just a handful of starts at the Grandview Speedway, Gettysburg, PA driver Danny “Double D” Dietrich earned his first ever Thunder on the Hill Racing Series feature win, taking the lead from Greg Hodnett with just two laps remaining in the 35 lap Thunder Cup Championship. Hodnett, appeared to be on his way to a fifth consecutive win at Grandview until Danny Dietrich made the winning move to earn the $5,300 first place prize. In the 358 NASCAR Modified feature, Jeff Strunk was the winner of the 30 lap feature earning $3,100 for the victory. The racing program started promptly at 7:30 PM and was complete just minutes before 10:30 PM.

Lucas Wolfe, driving the ZEMCO sprint car set fast time of the night, turning the one-third mile high banked Grandview Speedway in a time of 12:135 seconds. The three 410 sprint car heat race events were won by Lance Dewease, Darren Mollenuyux and Brian Carber. In the 358 Modifieds, Ray Swinehart, Jeff Strunk and Craig VonDohren were the heat race winners as Tim Buckwalter won the consolation.

In the thirty-five lap 410 sprint Thunder Cup, Ryan Smith was the early race leader followed by Danny Dietrich and Greg Hodnett. Smith set an impressive pace until lap five when the caution flag was displayed for Karl Baker who came to a stop on the homestretch. When green flag racing resumed, Ryan Smith continued to set the pace with Dietrich in the hunt.

On lap eleven, Smith was now approaching lapped traffic with Dietrich and Hodnett in striking distance of the lead. On lap thirteen, Hodnett made a run for the lead but Ryan Smith held on to the top spot. Smith and Hodnett thrilled the crowd with their battle for the lead as Hodnett was looking for his fifth win in a row as Ryan Smith was looking for his first Thunder on the Hill victory.

After an intense battle, Hodnett took the lead on lap sixteen followed by Smith, Lucas Wolfe, Lance Dewease and Danny Dietrich. One lap later, Wolfe moved into second and began the task of chasing down Hodnett. As the laps ticked off, Wolfe was cutting into the lead established by Hodnett as all eyes were on the battle for third between Ryan Smith, Danny Dietrich and eleventh place starter Alan Krimes.

Dietrich began another surge to the front, moving into third on lap twenty-two. Wolfe was definitely closing in on Hodnett, but on lap twenty-five, after a homestretch tangle with a slower car, Lucas flipped, displaying the red flag. Wolfe was not injured but the damage to his car kept him for restarting the race.

With ten laps to go, Hodnett was the leader followed by Dietrich, Ryan Smith, Alan Krimes and Lance Dewease. At the drop of the green, Hodnett had the advantage but it was time for Dietrich to take a run for the lead. Dietrich passed Hodnett in turn three but exiting turn four, Hodnett regained the top spot. Alan Krimes was now in third and gaining on the leaders. Dietrich stayed with Hodnett looking for the right opportunity to take another run for the lead. Krimes continued to close in on the leaders.

On lap thirty-two, Hodnett had plenty of company as both Dietrich and Krimes were now challenging in a three car race for the lead. Dietrich made a bold move going into turn three, making a slide across and in front of Hodnett to take the lead. Hodnett made a repeat challenge and at the same time, had to hold off Krimes who was looking to take second.

With the checker flag waiving, the large crowd on hand cheered Dietrich as he crossed the finish line earning his first ever, Thunder on the Hill 410 sprint car feature win. Hodnett earned a well-deserved second place finish as Alan Krimes finished third after starting eleventh. Lance Dewease finished fourth with Freddie Rahmer fifth.

The field of twenty-four 358 NASCAR Modifieds were called to the track with Jeff Strunk and Jimmy Horton bringing the field down for the green flag. Strunk immediately took the lead and quickly established himself as the man to beat. Strunk set a blistering pace with Horton, Ray Swinehart and Billy Pauch Jr in the chase. Danny Erb was on the charge, advancing to the top five by lap six.

At the halfway point of the race, Strunk had a commanding lead over Jimmy Horton, Pauch Jr., Erb and Craig VonDohren. A late race caution brought the field together for one last run to the checker flag. Strunk remained in control of the top spot as Pauch moved closer to challenge Horton for second. Strunk was the dominant star of the night in the 358 NASCAR Modifieds and scored his twelfth Thunder on the Hill victory. Jimmy Horton finished second followed by Billy Pauch Jr., Danny Erb and Craig VonDohren making up the top five.

410 SPRINT THUNDER CUP FINISH: $5,300 To Win Danny Dietrich, Greg Hodnett, Alan Krimes, Lance Dewease, Freddie Rahmer, Ryan Smith, Billy Dietrich, Kyle Reinhart, Brian Carber, Brandon Rahmer, Davey Sammons, Robbie Stillwaggon, Darren Mollenuyux, Justin Barger, Lucas Wolfe, Brad Franks, Kevin Nagy, JJ Grasso, Jimmy Stitzel, Jevon Ahner, Karl Baker.

358 NASCAR MODIFIED FEATURE FINISH: $3,100 To Win Jeff Strunk, Jimmy Horton, Billy Pauch Jr., Danny Erb, Craig VonDohren, Duane Howard, Doug Manmiller, Frank Cozze, Ray Swinehart, Rick Laubach, Ryan Watt, Ron Kline, Brian Houseknecht, Mike Gular, Don Norris Jr, Jordan Umbenhauer, Ryan Grim, Brett Kressley, Ryan Godown, John Willman, Ryan Krachum, Ron Haring, Jr., MeMe DeSantis, Tim Buckwalter. Leaves big hole on All Star schedule

There has been a slight power-shift in the battle between the All Star Circuit of Champions and the upstart Renegade Sprint series. Courtesy of Attica Raceway Park.

A few weeks ago, the All Stars released a tentative schedule that had five shows taking place at Attica. The one-third facility announced Friday that those dates were being given to the rival Renegade series. The Renegades will be at Attica Raceway Park April 3-4 for the Sprint Nationals, July 19 and Sept. 4-5.

“The feedback we were getting from fans, drivers and car owners was that there is more interest in the Renegades,” track promoter John Bores said. “We have committed to them. It seemed like the best fit for us.”

National Open Rookie To Receive $1,000

Mechanicsburg – The upcoming Williams Grove Speedway 53rd annual Champion Racing Oil National Open sanctioned by the World of Outlaws sprint cars has been expanded to a three-day format this season. The prestigious race is set for October 1, 2 and 3 at the historic Cumberland County oval. Saturday’s 40-lap Open will pay a whopping $50,000 to win with both the Thursday and Friday night shows offering $10,000 to win, 25-lap features.

And what happens on both Thursday and Friday will set the stage for drivers to compete in the Saturday National Open. National Open event points will be awarded for final position in time trials, heat races, C main, Last Chance Showdown and the feature, on both preliminary nights. The new points system will reward drivers for consistency throughout the event and is ultimately used to determine the lineups on the final night of the National Open.
